What is Piriformis Syndrome?

Piriformis Syndrome is a diagnosis where the sciatic nerve becomes irritated due to spasm in the muscle called Piriformis located in your buttock.  This muscle either sits very close to the nerve or in some people the nerve passes directly through the muscle.

I have recorded a short class that is great to strengthen the Gluts muscles that can become weaker if you have been diagnosed with Piriformis Syndrome.

Not all pain that travels into the leg is caused by Piriformis Syndrome and there are many other causes so if you are unsure what is causing your symptoms, always seek advise from a health professional.

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, you should medical seek advice.

Muscle weakness into the legs

Pain into both legs

Pins and Needles or any area that is Numb (loss of sensation)

Urgent medical help should be sort if you experience

Any loss of sensation in the saddle area ( between the legs)

Significant muscle weakness

An inability to pass urine
